As always, everyone is looking forward to the long bank holiday weekend ahead, as most people have a well earned extra day off work. However, due to the large number of people looking to hit the roads, it’s going to be a busy one!
Around 13 million Brits are planning on making the most of their bank holiday, which means busy roads and congestion, not to mention the rain and thunderstorms predicted by the weather forecasters.
According to the AA, the congestion will be worse this evening and Monday afternoon with 40% of drivers on the road for a day trip or an overnight stay.
To add to the congestion there will be severe disruption on the rail network due to engineering work and strike action perfectly timed to hit travellers hard. The areas most likely to be affected are Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow, causing passengers to make multiple stops and take the replacement buses.
Those planning on heading to Reading festival for the weekend could also face problems between Saturday and Monday as the strike action by the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union will affect First Great Western passengers travelling towards the South West.
So if you thought your plans couldn’t be ruined anymore…let’s look at the weather!
Forecasters believe the country is set to face a mixture of rain, sunshine and thunderstorms throughout the weekend. Rain in the North and clouds in the South on Saturday. Clouds in the North and rain in the South on Sunday. Then a mixture across the UK on Monday with heavy rain for the North.
Looks like the 2015 British summer will end exactly how it started. But as long as you enjoy your weekend that’s all that matters. After all, it is what you make of it!
