A Gloucester Firm has been sentenced for health and safety failings after the refurbishment work done to an elderly tenant’s home put her at risk because of a dangerous gas heater.
The woman’s home in Holmleigh, was one of many that had been refurbished in 2012 as part of a social housing project.
Two Gas Safe engineers visited the house in August 2013 as part of an annual service of the gas appliances within the home. Cheltenham Magistrates Court heard that the gas powered unit had been left in a dangerous condition as a result of the refurbishment work carried out.
The tenant suffered from numerous health problems in 2013 and even though no blood tests of the tenant were taken, it could not be ruled out that she had been exposed to high carbon monoxide levels due to the faulty gas unit.
The Gloucester Firm were fined £15, 000 and ordered to pay costs of £3587 after they pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
